Thank you for your efforts to emphasize how important our national parks are in the preservation of our public lands. Once they are lost, we won't get them back. It's critical to educate our children about the place of national parks in our country's heritage and its future.
This article beautifully underscores the vital role of national parks in preserving our natural heritage and highlights the importance of education in fostering future conservationists. It's disheartening to see the blatant disregard for our park rangers and educational programs due to short-sighted policies, especially from leaders like Trump and Musk, who prioritize profit over the collective good of our environment and communities. As advocates for national parks, we must demand that educational initiatives are prioritized, ensuring that every student understands the intrinsic value of these natural treasures. By empowering a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders, we can shift the narrative and protect our parks for years to come, rather than succumbing to the reckless whims of those who don't appreciate their beauty.
There is probably something in his many writings that would answer this. One quote that comes to mind, ""There can be nothing in the world more beautiful than the Yosemite, the groves of the giant sequoias and redwoods, the Canyon of the Colorado, the Canyon of the Yellowstone, the Three Tetons; and our people should see to it that they are preserved for their children and their children's children forever, with their majestic beauty all unmarred."
The sled dog units from Denali National Patk (which include a web cam—hello, pups!) highlight the multidisciplinary teaching resources of this amazing park!
We have Haleakala and Volcanos National Parks here in Hawaii. I also have a great memory of a talk on Oahu 15 yrs ago by historian Robin Winks. I was able to take my late son who was in high school at the time and who loved taking his friends on hikes in the Haleakala crater.
Love this! Something for everyone. Great suggestions and information. I have a friend who was a park ranger and gave it up because she felt she was being made more into a police officer. We really have to re-orient the whole idea of a park Ranger. Thank you.
Sad about the scrapping of care for our National Parks. When I was a kid, I collected National Park maps. Yep I was a total nerd. I want to visit every national park in the country. Been to a lot of them but now there are many more! Really hope this will be overturned and we will be able to preserve the beauty of these places. Will do what I can to support.
The undercurrent is gathering strength! The photo of the flag on El Capitan has really exploded and lots of folks in my network who didn't have parks on their radar before now do. In the meantime we all need to make sure that we keep building up the foundation for tomorrow's park advocates through education!

I love this, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and reading mine!
Too bad you can’t ask Teddy Roosevelt why parks are important.

Hello Suzanne! Thanks for mentioning this! I actually developed a full PBL unit around this very topic a while back. Here is the link (if you'd like to take a peek) - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ybz6ug5pJ6IPXmE3jlpZ-RdNVEca1k2owbU7B3-zRLQ/edit?usp=drive_link
Absolutely wonderful!!! I love how you e made this so user-friendly for educators (yeah, SEL goals!) and parents. Many thanks!!!
You need to teach the value of National Parks to your boss.
You guys have my heart in this war on insanity. Keep the pressure on! We’re holding you up.
Why? “National Parks Service removes photo of Harriet Tubman from Underground Railroad webpage”
Thank you for the information! My Granddaughter has wanted to work at a National Park since she was tiny! She is working towards it as we speak!

Wow, you got to see a walk by THE Robin Winks? That must have been incredible! Great memories, thanks for sharing!
